Star Trek Beyond - Movie Review

I've always said that a good song choice at a good moment in a film can boost a film's enjoyment factor or overall awesomeness. So before you see this movie, make sure you have The Beastie Boys' Sabotage on your phone for your drive home because you are going to want to listen to it.
Now for the movie. This is what summer blockbusters should be like. Fun, excting, action-packed, with a good sense of humour. In comparioson with the other two Star Trek films, this one feels the most epic. The first action sequence was some of the best Sci-Fi action I've seen in a long time and it sucked me into the story immediately. The character moments also worked very well. It didn't get sappy or corny for the most part and it dived into some characters who didn't the spotlight as much in the other two films. Also, the visual effects and the production design well extremely well done. I feel like Justin Lin was a great choice for this Star Trek film. He was able to put his unique spin onto Star Trek without it being a complete radical departure from the series. Overall, this is the film to see this summer! Other than Finding Dory, there haven't been many high calibur films released in June and July, until Star Trek Beyond!

I never really like star trek but finding dory is good!

Star Trek Beyond is the strongest of the three. This is from the view of a fan of ToS. It doesn't pander to classic fans in such an obtuse way as Into Darkness, yet retains a quirkiness to it that is directly out of the classic Trek playbook. There are a few moments that pander to classic Trek (Kirk somehow ripping his shirt again), but they are much more subtle and work surprisingly well in the context of the Enterprise's five year mission. The rest of the movie feels like an extended away mission (primarily because it is). This leaves the movie feeling like it has a refreshing lack of continuity within the rest of the reboot timeline. With a few minor tweaks, it could easily be a story from classic Trek. The new cast certainly shines once again, capturing what we love about Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov, while continuing to put their unique spin on the characters that endear us to them further.

Agreed. I'm actually coming to the films as a newbie as I never got into the old TV series. But these reboot films (especially the third) kinda makes me want to go back and watch some.

about to go see it - i had problems with a dirt bike on an alien planet - i mean - it's star trek - it should be at the very minimum a hover bike right. And i'm sick of the enterprise being destroyed in every episode of the new movies.
aside from that - i really would like to see them not have an enemy but some thing they have to solve in a movie. Places to see, aliens to meet instead of kill, and the wonders of the universe - They have completely forgotten that this vehicle the enterprise is on a mission to explore the galaxy - they forgot that completely in the reboot!!
