The Hurricane Heist - A Movie Review

Disaster movies are a plenty and was popular in the 1990s. Now is the 21st century and Rob Cohen (director of The Fast and The Furious, XXX, Daylight & Dragonheart) decided to release THE HURRICANE HEIST this year. I love disaster films, no matter how smart or dumb it can be, its just how fun watching a movie about one type of disaster and how it just destroys mankind, in a way only scriptwriters or directors can think of.

For me, watching THE HURRICANE HEIST I don't need to think much as its rather mediocre. Yes, the plot is rather thin (a group of thieves taking the hurricane storm as a cover-up to steal 600 million USD only to be stopped by a treasury agent, a meteorologist and an ex-marine), the acting is rather badly done (Toby Kebbell's Alabama accent feels so forced; even Rob Cohen appears as a local Gulford resident feels forced) and the death casualties are rather small (in fact, the main villain doesn't want to kill unless he is being forced to). The special effects on the other hand is enjoyable but seen before (The Day After Tomorrow, The Core, Deep Impact, etc) and for a heist action movie, I never thought I would say this but do anyone remember 1998's HARD RAIN? I felt HARD RAIN is much more fun to watch than this one.

Is It Good or Bad: I can't say its bad, I can't say its good. Its a slow ride for me but not entirely a bad ride. Just lousy scenic view kind. If Rob Cohen would have thought of this in the 1990s, it might make some money out of it. Wrong decade for a wrong movie.
