American Horror Story Hotel Review (Warning spoilers)

So I recently decided to try out AHS after being nagged by some friends for several weeks. Of-course me being me decided to skip the first four seasons and jump right into season 5, Hotel.

So the show takes place in The Cortez Hotel which is the home to a number of Vampires and Ghosts. First things first, Hotel really does have an all star cast. Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters and many others who'd starred in the previous seasons of AHS, were joined the incredible Lady Gaga, who plays The Countess. I have to admit that before watching the show, I was very skeptical as to whether her acting skills would be any good at all. I think many other people shared the same opinion to me - but like everyone else, I was proven wrong. Gaga is in-fact a really good actress - she even won the golden globe for her role in the show.

I was a bit disappointed however that Jessica Lange didn't return for this season. I'm not entirely sure of the reason that she decided not to return, but it's most probably because she wanted to move onto something new, after being with the show for four years.

I thought that this series got a bit too gory at times, with a bit too much blood and guts. But I guess that might just be me, as after all, it is a horror series.

The only other negative thing I have to say about it, is that the main plot line seems rather similar to Season 1, Murder House. I have recently started watching this and noticed that the plot to this season is about ghosts whose souls are trapped inside the murder house. Ring any bells? Well in Season 5, the ghosts aren't trapped in a house, but in a hotel. Hopefully there'll be a bit more originality in the next season.

I've realized that I've covered a lot of the negative points about the show, but don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy it. I loved the creepy sub-plot about the stolen children, who The Countess had turned into vampires. (Isn't Holden the cutest?!) I also loved the haunting sound track and the amazing costumes that Gaga and Liz Taylor wore.

On the whole, I think i'd rate Hotel a 8 out of 10.
