Week 10 of my Infinity War Preparation – 2018 MCU Re-Watch
Although the Thor films led the way, the MCU now fully commits to the cosmic side of things as the chronological rewatch takes us to outer space for a double bill of Guardians of the Galaxy films.
Vol 1 is a tightly written, fun, fast paced, action packed cosmic MacGuffin chase. Because of this I can totally see why people continue to love it, but I don't think I will ever like it as much as I did on my first watch in the cinema.
It's fun but disposable, with a few characters that just don't work for me. Nebula is the worst but I also fail to connect to Drax and Gamora. Watching both films in a week I was also struck by how much fake laughing is in the films; both by characters and actors. It gives a vague sense of trying to hard to be wacky...
To Infinity: This is probably the most important stepping stone to Infinity War since The Avengers. Firstly a new Infinity Stone is introduced and is the focus of the entire plot. We also get a history lesson from The Collector explaining what the Infinity Stones are and where they came from. And to top it off we get our first real taste of Thanos (and two of his 'children') following his Mid-Credit tease in The Avengers.
Mid/Post-Credit Scene(s): Both scenes are GotG related, and a fun way to introduce three new characters; Baby Groot, Cosmo the Spacedog, and Howard the Duck.
Next Up: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
