These Movies Were Actually Indies

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about indie films? Maybe it’s deep storylines or not so well-known actors or maybe even shaking camera work. And probably not something that you ended up seeing in major movie theater where most of the movies come from major Hollywood studios.

SAGindie has reminded us that there are a lot of really popular movies that actually are indies. These include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (really hard to believe if you look at all the merchandise for children that is still out there 18 years after the original movie was released), House Party (which made hip hop very popular), Dirty Dancing (who hasn't had the time of their life at least listening to the soundtrack), The Brave Little Toaster (probably can be found in the VHS tapes that are somewhere in your parents’ garage), Teen Wolf (the highest-grossing independent film of 1985 alongside the highest-growing studio film that year, both starring Michael J. Fox), The Terminator (I'll be back), and Halloween (the original that ended up having countless sequels).

These films have defined a generation of pop culture. And isn’t it really cool that they were actually indie movies? It only goes to show what potential fresh new ideas have and why it’s worth investing in them.

MoviesChain by TVzavr wants to help indie filmmakers get their movies made and out to viewers. This blockchain platform enables films to get to viewers without intermediaries and also features a lot of helpful tools for people who want to make films.
