It seems that most movies, especially those aimed to children, "need" to integrate a dose of wokeness to start the indoctrination early. No such thing seems present in Minions, the Rise of Gru, which may explain it wide popularity. But that doesn't make it a good movie.
Murica, mid 1970s. A group of six vilains is wreaking havoc all around the world. And they are about to do more since they got a hold of the Zodiac Stone, whose power will be unleashed during the Chinese New Year. However, 5 members decide to kick out their eldest, who founded the group...
In the mean time, Gru aspires to be part of the vilain 6. He does get accepted to an interview but is rejected outright because he's (just about) 12. But he manages to steal the Zodiac Stone, hoping that the vilains will recognize his boldness. No such luck...
This movie is what I call pure entertainment. The plot is as thin as a sheet of gold and has lots of actions. And since there are minions, there are also plenty of easy jokes, farts and jibberish. However, it seems to be lacking bananas... This will in no way, shape or manner win any award; however you will have a good time to distract you from your outside problems for about 90 minutes.
So if you want to passively enjoy action, humor and (almost) no politics, you should definitely get this movie. Just don't expect anything grand
