Are You Ready for an A-Force Movie?

Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok) has revealed that she and the other female actresses of the MCU have pitched an all-female superhero movie to Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel movies. Basically, it’s an A-Force movie. The other women that pitched the idea together are Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), and Karen Gillan (Nebula). As Captain Marvel will not make her first appearance in Infinity War, we might get to see them all on the screen together in Avengers 4. But, they want their own movie. Will they get it?

First of all, the A-Force comic was a critical hit, but not a financial one and it was cancelled in less than a year. That’s not a good basis to work on considering it was a comic from 2016, not an old and obscure one. Second of all, audiences seemed to be not into all female movies, look at what happened to Ghost Busters. Third, and most importantly, Marvel doesn’t take risks. Sure, they might hire new and very creative directors like Taika Waititi and Ryan Coogler, but they take less risks with their movies.

The only way that we will see an A-Force movie is if DC will make a Gotham City Sirens movie like they announced. Gotham City Sirens is an all-female villain team-up, which will be led by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. If DC will take the risk of a female movie and people will show up to watch the movie, Marvel will follow with their own all female movie. Marvel has used this strategy in the past.

Another important factor is that things changed since Ghost Busters failed at the box office. I know that that movie came out only in 2016, but in 2017 things changed. It seems like more women are going to the movies and are responsible for movies success. Beauty and the Beast made over a billion dollars and 60% of the audience during the first weekend of the movie's release were women. Demographic breakdown is only recorded for the first weekend. Wonder Woman also enjoyed a hug female support. Even Atomic Blonde made more money than the first John Wick movie. So perhaps female audiences will give an A-Force movie the support that it needs.

I still believe that Marvel won’t take that risk until DC does.

I would go see it. :)

Me too! I would add that this movie should have all female characters like Scarlet Witch and WASP.
