The first Wonder Woman movie was a major success, so expectations from the squeal are high. However, rumors and behind the set photos showed a great change in the tone of the movie, a change towards a much lighter tone than the original movie. Some fans started to worry.
The worries intensified when Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman herself, announced on Twitter that the movie has been pushed back 7 months, and will now be released on June 5, 2020. Giving the movie some breathing space from big movies like Frozen 2 and Star Wars: Episode IX. However, the new release date will put it in direct competition with Maleficent 2. Although the first movie did great in June, this move had some fans worried that extensive reshoots are required for the movie.
The new rumor in town is that yes, extensive rewriters and reshoots are required, but not because of the quality of the movie. This new information could be perceived as possible SPOILERS so processed with caution.
The new rumor is that Wonder Woman 1984 will be a Flashpoint movie. Meaning, that it is Diana Prince who will reset the timeline and basically reboot all of DC properties, especially Batman and Superman. Considering that the Flash seems to be stuck in development hell and that Ezra Miller doesn't have a lot of support for his portrayal of the character, it seems logical that some closer movie will get the opportunity to reboot the DCEU.
I have to say that I am not sure how I feel about this. It's means that a very long period of time will pass between both movies, and other possibility exiting movies have moved to that release date as soon as it cleared up. I know that the DC movies aren't really great with iconic plot lines, but this is really stretching it. I really hope it will workout the movie and that Patty Jenkins can pull this off.
