We get acquainted with Mira Killian. She fell under the terrorists attack and in order to save her life her brain was transplanted into the android body. She is offered a job in an elite police force consisting of "improved" soldiers. They catch the most dangerous culprits. A dangerous hacker challenges them and they have no time to disarm him.

REVIEW (NO SPOILERS)

The movie promotion began with a scandal. Society was indignant that an actress with a European appearance was invited to the role of Major Mira Killian. The creators were accused of promoting racism and insulting the feelings of Asians and their culture. While Japanese viewers were pleased with the choice of Scarlett Johansson.
Secondly, the film cut out all the eastern philosophy and local color of Hong Kong.

The film is very different to the anime it's based on, in spite of the same storyline and scenes.

The anime "Ghost in the Shell" turned into classical genre long ago. Anime plunges into a tense and cold atmosphere from the opening minutes. Meaningful dialogues, oriental culture, gloomy city and we are immersed in the plot deeper and deeper. The anime "Ghost in the Shell" has a great semantic load.

Anime was extremely original for his century - raised questions about the human soul, the self-awareness of androids, about self-determination, about whether there can be a mind inside something inhuman? Who we are in this universe, what can we bring with our actions and how everything can affect the things around us? A very grim story is constantly fueled by philosophical dialogues. Watching anime you realize how much is relevant for us right now. Cybercrimes, the impact on elections, the arms race.

The anime "Ghost in the Shell" is one of the fantasies about the future. But it's so true.

And what about movie? Could it convey the whole meaning of the anime?

No.

It's a popcorn movie.

The trailer captured me from the first second. It was exciting plus I like Scarlett Johansson. Fist I saw her in Lost in Translation and she was so organic in her role.

I expected that it would be spectacular and clever fantasy. If I did't watch anime, I would hardly understand what is happening on the screen. To please people and earn money filmmakers did lots of action scenes and cut out almost the entire philosophy and the disclosure of characters. I didn't understand who all these people, except the Major and her doctor. I did not understand the motivation of the characters. I did not feel all the Major pain.

Certainly visual effects, fights are made perfectly. But it does not mean that the plot must be lame. An interesting story was the main advantage of the original film. The movie doesn't cause emotions, except aesthetic pleasure. Watching the movie you want to crunch popcorn, but not sympathize with the characters.

If you like entertainment and action without semantic load then the film fits you. If you are fan of anime "Ghost in the Shell", it will make you cry tears of blood.

Visual effects 9/10. Meaning, motivation of the characters, the disclosure of characters 4/10

Мне стыдно сказать, но столько букв на английском я не осилила

короче, фильм классный в визуальном плане, но отстойный по смыслу)

Due to some circumstances I couldn't watch the movie in the cinema, although it sounded refreshing and I really wanted to go at first. Then I've watched it at home and I've realised that it was my good luck that didn't let me show up at the movie-theatre))) very clever review!

You didn't lose anything. It's quite enough to watch it at home)
