In Iceland there are only 1.8 murders per year, most of them caused by alcohol or mental problems. That is why the inexplicable death of Birna Brjansdottir has shocked the country

The finding of the corpse of a 20-year-old girl on a beach south of Reykjavik has left Iceland in dismay. This is because the country, with 330,000 inhabitants, has one of the lowest crime rates in the world and homicides are extremely atypical.

With the participation of 725 volunteers, the Birna Brjansdottir murder has led to the largest search and rescue operation in the nation's history, according to local media.

After 8 missing days, the incident has ended with the arrest of two Greenlandic sailors aged 25 and 30, but there is still no conclusive evidence that they are guilty. Police said they are treating the case as a murder, but "it is not currently possible to determine the cause of death."

The beginning of this tragedy goes back to the night of January 14, when Brjansdottir was drinking in the bars of Reykjavik. The cameras of surveillance of the zone registered the last images that have of her, in which she appears stumbling along the streets of the city.
