The Charleston Museum in South Carolina includes several different properties. Previously, I posted some photographs of the Manigault House. Across the street is its main museum. Here are some photographs of natural history exhibits there. First, you can see the skeleton of a whale which made the mistake of swimming into Charleston Harbor in the 1880s, where it was promptly killed. Some of these other taxidermed animals are from the original section of the museum, several exhibits of which were brought by its founder from other regions. At the time, this was perhaps the oldest museum in the United States.
