From my experience, one of the most important factor that attracts success is thinking outside the box.
By that, I mean coming up with a product, a service or a marketing strategy that hasn't really been done before and that will make you stand out from the crowd.
More often than not, humans tend to copy and repeat what others do but it's not because someone got successful doing something 10 years ago that it will work for your now ; this is especially valid for the music business.
Let me use my story as an example:
I released my first album in 2009 and at that time, I thought I was gonna make it in the industry the same way my idols did in the 80's and 90's: record an album > tour > repeat.
As most of you probably know by now, this model is long gone. Later on, I thought that using social media as a promotional tool (the like, share, subscribe thing!) would be enough to get exposure and revenue. This lead to mediocre, average results at best. Therefore I needed to rethink about my approach of the music industry and I started to learn as much as I could about the music business, business in general, marketing, innovation, the development of internet and e-commerce as well as the global financial shift.
This lead me to create the Drum Tracks you're familiar with in 2014. At that time, and still to this day, I realise that there weren't many hiqh quality Metal Drum Tracks to jam with online, let alone the ability to purchase them in their mix-ready multitrack version in a few clicks. That's what I came up with. Using social media as automated marketing solution, I was able to get traffic quickly which I could then send to my website and convert it into sales. With constant new releases and continuous development (such as my new license upgrades), I was able to generate signficiant revenue from the comfort of my home studio.
The point of that story is not to repeat what I did because it will most likely not work for you. The point is that I had to dig very deep and come up with something unique, I had to think outside the box!
