"I Want To Live In A Machine". An Album Written and Recorded in Just 4 Days!

I love a challenge!

Last year I met @GrandSpace in the chat room on my website AtomCollectorRecords.com and we "spoke" almost every day for months.

We are both big fans of industrial music and we were also loving each other's tracks so initially we decided to have a go at a collaboration remotely. He created an instrumental track and sent it to me. I wrote the lyrics and sang on it and then sent him the dry stems for him to mix and master. "Rise Up" was the result: https://dsound.audio/#/@atomcollector/rise-up

We had become good friends and came up with this crazy idea - I would fly to Poland where he lives and we would attempt to write and record an entire album in just 4 days!!! The flights were ridiculously cheap so that wasn't an obstacle and so in October last year off I went!

I videoed the journey as a kind of journal, which you can see below.

Our days consisted of:

  • Wake up and go to breakfast in the hotel
  • @GrandSpace picks me up from the hotel shortly after and we drive to his house
  • Get straight down to recording
  • Stop briefly for a couple of coffees during the morning
  • Half an hour break for lunch
  • Repeat in the afternoon (apart from a brief break to play with his absolutely adorable daughter when she comes home from nursery!)
  • Have dinner cooked by his lovely wife at the house
  • More recording in the evening
  • Back to the hotel completely tired out and straight to bed
  • Repeat the next day!

It was rather intense but very rewarding.

We soon realised the the most efficient way for us to work was for @GrandSpace to work on an instrumental on his own and then pass it to me on a USB stick so I could listen, write lyrics and record the vocals.

13 tracks later and we had our album!!!

@GrandSpace then spent the next month or so mixing and mastering and here is the result!

It was fantastic experience that I will treasure forever and as well as making an album we are both proud of I have made a lifelong friend!

We plan to do an EP in 2 days later this year too!

Rise up is one the best #indie tracks we've heard in the last 6 months. Great vocals on a soaring melody, you hear it often in GJART-Towers (a two bed flat in reality!)

Thank you very much indeed!! :-)

Try @dsound :)

Thanks. It's already on dsound. :-)

Ah, that does ring a bell ;)
It was one hell of a ride! Not only the 4 days of recording but everything that led to that as well :) 11/10, would (and will) do again.

Indeed we will!
