Found this YouTube video years ago and just rediscovered it.
It's an electric bass cover of the song entitled God is Love from the 1971 Marvin Gaye album entitled What's Going On.
This guy does a pretty respectable job of covering one of the greatest and most creative electric bass players the world has ever produced - the legendary James Jamerson.
Jamerson was the bass sound behind a large swath of the Motown songs of the 1960s and 70s.
He was the bass component of the Funk Brothers who were the band of Detroit area musicians fueling the soundtrack for MANY great Motown hits.
Jamerson's bass of choice was the Fender Precision and he plucked the strings mostly with a single finger.
He was known for weaving interesting syncopated melodies on the bass, provided the catchy hooks that made many a Motown song memorable.
And to think that Jamerson typically stuck within the box of the first 4 or 5 frets, he was one special musician!
