For those Steemit followers who don't know (and random passers-by) I'm in the band BOE (Brink of Extinction). We're a 6 piece groove-metal band, with links to prog, tech, nu and extreme metal. We've been together for about 12 years now, with a few breaks and gaps between. For the past 2/3 years though we've been back on it full, creating a 6 track EP (Out September) and gigging regularly. Last Monday though, we had an opportunity like no other...
We got to support SOULFLY at the Fleece (Bristol) which for all of us, was an incredible opportunity as not only have Soulfly (and Max Cavalera) been a huge influence to all of us growing up; and are a corner stone of the extreme music community... But also because shortly after we were announced, this happened...
So needless to say, we were equally totally stoked and completely shitting ourselves! Haha! And with less than a weeks' notice, we also found out we were the only support act and our set was 40minutes... Which was extremely amusing, as our set is usually 30minutes, thus we had 6 days to (re)learn a track from thee olde archives... A track which we hadn't played in 8 years, and which one of our guitarists and our bassist had never played. We then had a couple other hiccups along the way... Like me foolishly/accidentally doing-in my lungs with carcinogenic fumes the night before (I'm a vocalist) and worst, our guitarist crashing enroute to the gig, luckily no one was seriously injured...
However, despite these hiccups the gig went off brilliantly, the crowd really digged our sound and gave us an amazing reception/feedback, plus the room really launched when we played our olde archived track! (Sickening) And yeah... We couldn't be more honoured and grateful to have had such an incredible crowd filled with so many friends, with an amazing crew behind us and to of also been supporting one of our idols...
So yeah... words cannot describe...!
[Chuck: Guitar]
[Ben: Bass]
[Panda: Vocals]
[Me/Colt: Vocals]
[Billy: Guitar]
[Chris: Drums]
Soulfly then went on and played a phenomenal 1hr 20min set, which included so many epic tracks that I was really really hoping they'd play, along with a few I never expected, including Prophecy, Back to the Primitive and even Sepultura's Refuse/Resist!
...Aw damn, it was so incredible...
-And for those unfamiliar with Soulfly, here's those tracks:
So whats next?
Well we've got our EP launching: 7/09/12,018(he)
& heres 'Jekyll and Psyclops' from the EP (well the old mix...)
Then we've got a few promising opportunities coming up, including a gig with our local chums, SEREGON!
Aaaaaand finally, I'm pleased to say, we're working on a couple music videos, setting up a summer of fun and shenanigans next year and... finally working on an album... Well technically three... With the hopes of going back into the studio late next year! So yeah, awesome times; and we wouldn't be able to do any of it without the constant support from our friends, family, crew and crowd... You guys are phenomenal, have our endless thanks and gratitude and yeah, I frickin' love you all!
Big love everyone!
