The famed psychologist Freud is one weird motherfucker in my humble opinion, but he is famed and a common reference in psychology and pop culture.
One of his theory's about the pitiful human psyche is the partner to the oedipus complex is the lesser talked about Electra complex. Freud believed that girls and women feel competition with their mothers for their fathers affection.(which is a much less weird summary of what Freud's words.)
