1963 - 55 years ago today Dick Dale, the King of Surf Guitar, released "Let's Go Trippin". It's release would be the commercial start of California's Surf Music craze. Two months later the Beach Boys would ante up with "Surfin". Dick Dale began playing surf music in the 50s with the encouragement of Leo Fender (founder of Fender guitars and amps), experimenting with reverb, volume, and rapid, staccato slide playing that came to define the genre.
