I was first made aware of AJG through he's single, Street Lingo. The single in itself generated some buzz around Cape Town, that's usually how I discover new artists to listen to.
Then in late 2017 he started a cover series he calls 'Cover Killer Series' to showcase he's versatility. This being the fifth and final installment I decided to cover it myself due to the instrumental he selected, Shook Ones II.
Choosing hip-hops most iconic and recognizable instrumental isn't always a smart move. You're placed under a greater microscope. You're judged more harshly than on any given instrumental. With that being said...
Infamous AJG holds he's own against Shook Ones II. He's rapid fire flow is as impeccable as always. He effortlessly glides over the beat with relative ease.
Where he really excels is that he choose the perfect backdrop to address some pressing issues such as the negativity that comes with being an artist, relationship trouble and he's mothers incarceration.
The little things he touches on can and most likely will be explored later on full blown songs. This being the final installment of the cover series, I'd have to say that he ends it on the right note.
Here's to hoping the series returns at a later stage in 2018. Keep up the hard work Infamous.
