Synesthesia Review: The Chillionaires - Who Wants to Be a Chillionaire

in music •  7 years ago

My first time listening to the Brooklyn trio of Ruciano, Skyscraper & King Gray was a journey through straight up flossing and bravado.

The length is probably the biggest flaw the mixtape has. The mixtape is ungodly long, more than 75+ minutes by my calculations. The other being the lack of diverse subject matter. The mixtape is packed with 16 songs and each explores nothing outside money and what it can purchase.

It's not all bad, individually the tracks are phenomenal. The verse from Ruciano on Mr. Fly Guy is evidence that these dudes have bars and can bring them when required. The track was rightfully chosen to be given the visual treatment.

The other track selected for some visual treatment was standout track I'm Up One. The song should definitely be playing on radio stations worldwide. This'll without a doubt be a song I will listen to for the next decade.

The group clearly have a penchant for knocking hooks into the nosebleeds. They're definitely on the cusps of having a song take over globally with hooks like these. They also deliver quality music in abundance. The quality of their music can never be questioned.

The instrumentation chosen complimented each member on it perfectly, including the features. They didn't overuse the new trap wave, instead opting to diversify the overall sound of the instrumentals. They each held their own throughout the mixtape.

The positives far outweigh the negatives and as a first time introduction, it's an incredible piece of work. They asked and here's my answer: I wanna be a Chillionaire.
