The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Sonny Rollins’s version)

in music •  7 years ago

Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums). Extraído del álbum Tenor Madness (1956).

Could you be the most beautiful woman in the world? It is easy to understand that you are the reason God created woman. When the day of judgment arrives, I hope you are in my arms. And every time it gets dark I'll cry with joy because I would die for you. How can I get you in days when I can’t do it in hours?

When I try, I see you and you devour me. I cannot resist the beauty of your face as soft as a flower. Even if the stars fell one by one, your loveliness would still be radiant. Faced with this kind of beauty, you cannot be shy because it comes from within.

The group plays the introduction in 3/4 meter, like a waltz, and Rollins is entertained by linking some phrases. Next Jones marks the beginning of the theme with his drums and with a drumroll changes to 4/4 meter. Rollins enters to play a long and enthusiasm tune with a melody that sounds dedicated to a woman. Next comes Garland with an animated speech. Then Rollins returns with an overwhelming solo doing a whole series of deadly jumps. Now it’s the turn of Chambers, who performs his solo with the bow before giving way to Jones, who hits the drums with measured and continuous phrases. Rollins comes back to recreate himself in the chords of the theme and gives it a sudden ending.
