Baroness - Grad
Baroness is a band that I was
obsessed with a decade or so ago, when I really got back into modern metal. They were formed in 2003 in Savannah, GA, and their current line-up consists of John Baizley (vocals, guitar), Nick Jost (bass), Sebastian Thomson (drums), and Gina Gleason (guitar). I found them through Mastodon, as both bands are from Georgia, and both have a heavy, yet still proggy sound, though Baroness is different as they incorporate more melodic ideas, along with guitar sounds/styles that are more 'old-school', influenced by heavy metal of the '70s and '80s.

This is the closing track on the band's
first full length album, The Red Album, released in 2007. I discovered the band through this album, and instantly became a fan. There are some incredible guitar parts throughout, and some awesome harmony work, along with some really amazing odd-meters, which I'm always partial to. This song has a very southern vibe, though with the strange rhythmic pattern, it manages to feel incredibly unique yet somehow still familiar. There are no vocals on this tune, so it's perhaps not the best example of the band as a whole, but if you like it, I recommend checking out the full release.
Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
