Using a Fender Stratocaster to play jazz guitar

in music •  5 years ago  (edited)

Many people think a Fender Stratocaster is only for blues and rock, but it is also great for jazz guitar. Using a fender amp like a twin reverb, and using a clean sound, makes the Stratocaster sound really jazzy.

When I play gigs I like to bring my Stratocaster because it covers a wide range of sounds I look for. You can use a distortion pedal and delay to get a rock sound or a heavy blues sound which is typical for the Stratocaster.

What you don't hear a lot is jazz on a Fender Stratocaster but it works just fine. The importance of learning songs and standards goes without saying for any serious musician so here are a few examples of simple solo guitar standards on a Fender Stratocaster performed by my friend Chuck Corbisiero a seasoned pro, he jams great on any gig so he is a must if available.

Chuck complements other guitar players and next week we will try and jam a few standards together.
