Having lived in Athens, Georgia for a few years I had been introduced to a fair amount of indie rock. Neutral Milk Hotel, a band active in Athens in the late 1990s, was discussed frequently among friends and continued to have a large following even years after disbandment. I had a number of great years in Athens and this album always brings back memories of that time.
In the Airplane Over the Sea is an album that has an odd comforting effect. The slow drawling vocals matched with an eclectic mix of instruments have a perfect fit for a lazy day around the house.
If you have a liking for indie or folk rock and haven't previously heard Neutral Milk Hotel I highly suggest giving the whole album a listen.
