Opening by Philip Glass

I am what some might call, a workaholic. I’ve never known when to rest or take a break.
If I choose to do something, I become slightly obsessed, and I do it at 1000% which doesn’t leave room for anything else.
I suppose it’s not surprising with my background of addiction.
But, of course, other necessary activities still need to be accomplished, which leaves me exhausted.

I’m currently.... exhausted.

I haven’t practiced piano or guitar in months. I sat down yesterday and the first thing that my hands decided to play was Opening by Philip Glass.

Glass is my favorite composer. Most of his work consists of minimalistic repetitive harmonic structures with duple against triple polyrhythmic melodic themes played simultaneously.
In this case the right hand is playing triplets while the left hand is playing eighth notes.

To me, this piece is a representation of what is going on inside my brain right now.
The triplets symbolize what I want to do, while the eighth notes are countering with what I have to do.

Now I don’t play piano, or any instrument for that matter, but would think it’s pretty difficult to have one hand doing one thing and the other doing another thing. You made a perfect correlation between what you want to do and what you must do reflected in the movement of your hands. Great job, and thanks for sharing!

Everything comes with practice and dedication at that. Before I started typing with the Ed typewriter, I thought typists performed magic.

Now, I can type a page with either a computer or typewriter with my eyes closed and someone dictating to me.

Nice! That’s dedication.

It all comes with practice and dedication, well said.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!!!

I don't read music, but as a fellow artist I love that you can connect with notes - in a way you can read the lines and see/feel/hear what they symbolize to you <3

I hope you can find a balance between the having to and wanting to.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment....I hope I can too! :)

I think its really beautiful that you are able to see how the notes themselves relate to your life and use rhythm as a meditation for self growth. Beautifully communicated, and a lovely sentiment. :) Followed!

Thank you for your lovely comment...following you as well!

I have trouble chewing gum and typing at the same time, I have no idea how you can play triplets and eighth notes at the same time...
Mistress of the keyboard!
Where's Shane's triangle? There should be triangle! LOL

lol I was going to have him come in at the end and hit it!
Thank you Amber!

Melodramatic, nostalgic, beautiful 😢

Thank you Drakos <3

Beautifully played Isaria!! It's good to take a deep breath and make some music that's a good way to refocus!!!!! What was that at the end??? Should we blame Shane?

Thanks Vache! lol yes of course Shane had to get his 2 cents in there!

Wonderfully played. Philip Glasse's work is amazing and here you have captured it well. Thanks for sharing 💯🐒

I love Glass too! Thank you! :)

Excellent. Thank for great song. Keep on!

But there was no song 😕😕

The girl plays the instrument. I was saying that. Song is false, music is right I then.

Thank you!

Despite not practicing for so long, your piano skills are so sweet and impressive. I guess you put 1000% into playing this too.

Well done dear.

Thank you so much!

I find it very difficult to learn the keyboard

Very nice interpretation!

Lo ame, yo tambien toco el piano, aunque no subo mis canciones a steemit
