Episode 6 is here, we're going hard on the dnb this time, maybe every time. But always a good balance hopefully. Who cares, here's some vibes never the less. Enjoy!
Collette Warren - Betrayal Feat. Quadrant & Iris
Something i've been patiently waiting to come out after hearing this clip last year, still cannot find a full version of it anywhere, always the way with the real gems. Collette Warren is exquisite over these perfectly produced beats and bass. Please release this beauty.
La Roux - In For The Kill (Skream Remix)
Well this tune was absolutely massive 10 years ago, it was everywhere, but it was also everywhere before it was everywhere, the legendary Skream remix of the uniquely talented La Roux and her anthem "In for The Kill" this remix was just right, it hit the spot. The Amen and reece bassline section at the end is just pure gold.
Proktah ft. Future Signal - Insecticide [Citrus Recordings]
Here's something that pioneered the neurofunk genre of drum and bass, everyone has forgetten this, but not me. Future Signal was a prophet, his name gave you a clue 10 year ago as to where dnb was heading, but this stuff still beats a hell of a lot of the carbon copy neurofunk made today, before everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Study this track, if you are a young person wanting to make dnb. It still blows my mind.
Radicall - Keep Your Distance
A deep, rolling mystical vibe. Perfection.
Joy Division - Shadowplay (2007 remaster)
“I struggle between what I know is right in my own mind, and some warped truthfulness as seen through other people's eyes who have no heart, and can't see the difference anyway.”
― Ian Curtis
Naibu - Achille
I've been listening to Naibu for a few years and i'm always intrigued by his sound, and way of pulling you in for a moment, i call it contemplative drum and bass. I don't really know what to write anymore, but just sharing these tracks is enough. I hope others find some clarity and inspiration from music like this, because this is definitely not throw away digital music. This deserves to be immortalized.
Dj Luck & Mc Neat ft. JJ - Master Blaster 2000
Back from the early garage days, DJ Luck & MC Neat were deep in the garage circuit and even hit the charts with their cult classic "a little bit of luck". Master blaster, ain't no stoppin' us and little bit of luck us were songs i bought, mixed, danced to, played in my capri and tried to push on dnb heads who were garage skeptics. But this is a track they'd all love now, i'm sure. I love those old friends though, because they REALLY WOKE ME UP TO DRUM AND BASS, so i'm ever thankful.
Vengaboys - Movin Around
Most of you know of the vengaboys and all chart hits they had, i'm not ashamed to say i've been into vengaboys since i was about 10. Up and down, actually inspired me an awful lot, alongside all the underground stuff i listened to. But, not many people know that this track "Movin Around" was actually made pre chart period and before the producers behind vengaboys employed the 4 beautiful looking people to front the band in the videos. The producers behind vengaboys were actually very good trance producers before they took the brand mainstream. Guilty pleasure of mine.
Dimension - Raver
Well this track was the reason why i wanted to do another innersound blog, i suddenly remembered this track and realize how great it is, you know why? becuase it is like nothing you've heard before, it's from the future, made in the moment and heavily paying respect to the past and the rave culture. Still bang this out in my car. Enjoy the energy in this vibe.
I decided against relinquishing my driving license, that one was maybe a bit extreme.
Tlim Shug - U+99FD
Here is something completely left of the field, wherever that is. I came across this young American producer on a website called audiotool.com where a bunch of producers who'd never been signed would come together and make music online with online replications of classic synthesizers and drum machines. Based out of Cologne, Germany, audiotool was the place where underground musicians went to create and express the finer threads of the soul. Audiotool was the first music production software based in flash and fully web based, it was free, it was and still is a thriving community and this is where Tlim Shug AKA Vltra honed his skills. As did many others. To me, this track epitomizes the audiotool era.
Tlim Shug went on to be signed and has released numerous gems since his early beginnings on audiotool. Just goes to show it's no longer about having a big studio with a tonne of gear, all you really need is a laptop and headphones, if you have the gift, and Tlim Shug certainly has the gift.
Bjork - Wanderlust
Maybe the dancer in the dark scene was a bit depressing for some, i don't know, i do love that scene. Bjork is supremely talented whatever she does. But, i have to put her in and there's no better track than Wanderlust, good video too. The pattern has been spotted.
The ending of this track inspired the ending of a track i made called "Arcturus".

Hey Jon! where's the obligatory Lily Allen post? well here's an early one entitled "Friday Night " which is a song taken off Lily's first album released in 2006.
