I played here a couple weeks ago with Jason the keyboard player. It's the holidays now, and he called me for wed/fri/sat afternoons.

I forgot the casing for the camera, so I was looking for convenient places in the cafe to put it. Last time I had it attached to the head stock of the bass but this didn't really get a good picture as my head was too close.

So I just put it on the counter next to some flowers. Obviously the girl sitting right in front didn't realize it was filming, because she was constantly taking selfies! Haha!

Actually... this place seems to be a magnet for superficial women. It's the flowers, high tea, desserts, cake, fruit platters, chocolate and coffee. And they sit there and take photos of the food, the flowers and themselves. Sometimes they take photos of the band too. I think that's why they requested the double bass. It's just a spectacle in itself.

Some musicians get bothered if there's no audience interaction. You know, if no one is watching them. Some need it to perform. I definitely like it more when people are watching and enjoying the music. It adds more energy and creates a beautiful feeling of connection. But when no one is listening, I don't mind either. I just change my attitude to one of paid practice or just no pressure. These situations you can try stuff you're not sure sure will work or not. Anyway you just enjoy the gig for what it is. The act of playing music with other people is good enough!

But back to the camera. It got knocked over by one of the staff during autumn leaves. It didn't get damaged or anything as it fell on a lower table into packaging. I was just surprised that no one noticed it!

I have a busy weekend, 5 gigs. Tomorrow I have this afternoon gig, then an early evening set and then with the late night jam session which starts at 1:30am.

Since getting back from holiday and having that week off playing, coupled with the heavier strings on my bass I'm a little worried about my stamina for the evening.... I have been playing pretty consistently this week and it's getting better again, but I need to really take it easy in the afternoon I think.
