POLL - Time To Ditch Spotify & SoundCloud?

Using online to promote your music has always been about being available where your audience is. CDBaby has done a good job of helping with digital distro. It does cost but, at least they made the effort of connecting all of the digital platforms to their members who originally signed up with CDBaby to distribute compact discs.

Facts are facts: Nobody wants to pay for music anymore. The "mainstream" sites like Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Jango, etc., all take a HUGE cut of your blood, sweat and tears, if you are a musician. Blockchain changes that equation. Blockchain may be underground right now but, eventually, it will be a part of the global economic quilt in a major way.

I still give away my music in person and digitally. When you are self-promoting, you are always giving SOMETHING away for nothing. Just make certain that you start and maintain not only a business for your band but, also have a music publishing business that is yours as well. This way you not only have the rights of the creation covered but, the rights of publishing is all owned by you. Never sign those away to some distro company, or label.

I like Soundcloud and use it only for rough sketches of my songs that I wish to share, like bonus tracks. This way I can give people a taste and connect but, still have a polished studio version I can sell. All of the online apps can be used this way. It is really about how you want to use them. And what level of time you have available to update them.

Now if there was only...somebody...anybody...who is trying to link artists to each other and all these sites together...hmm...I wonder...who...that could be...

:D 'nuff said.
