Myles Kennedy - solo album of the Alter Bridge frontman

Hello Steemians,

yesterday I just found out that Myles Kennedy finally released his solo album on 9 March 2018. I inhaled it overnight and really can recommend to listen to it! Back in 2009 he announced a solo project but it took the time until 2018 to release the album as he re-worked it many times. Myles Richard Kennedy is well known as the frontman of the US rockgroup Alter Bridge, but the sound of his solo record is very different to Alter Bridge. More emotional acoustic songs, more country-laced songs which would not fit to Alter Bridge at all:

Song: Devil On The Wall

As title for his solo debut album Kennedy chose "Year Of The Tiger". In the Chinese calendar this was the year his father died (1974). The album starts with the same titled song, definitely one of the most emotional songs of this album.

In the year of the tiger, into an ocean grave
Threw his ashes to the wind then walked away
In the year of the tiger, I got no time to waste
A resolution to keep fighting and remain

Track List:
Year of the Tiger
The Great Beyond
Blind Faith
Devil on the Wall
Ghost of Shangri La
Turning Stones
Haunted by Design
Mother
Nothing but a Name
Love Can Only Heal
Songbird
One Fine Day

If you listen to the songs you will soon recognize that there are not much commonalities to Alter Bridge. Sure they also have ballads but it's a different kind of music. If you don't know Alter Bridge yet, here's a link to my favorite song Metalingus.

My favorite song of his solo album is Love Can Only Heal. It starts really slow and melancholic and when you think the song ends at 3:15 it comes back with more power and an emotional guitar solo:

Song: Love Can Only Heal

Myles Richard Bass was born in 27 November 1969 in Boston. After his father died and his mother married again later, the family took the name Kennedy. After he came in touch with a lot of different music in school he enrolled to study music.
Apart from Alter Bridge and his solo work, he also worked together with Led Zeppelin and still makes music with Slash.

Give it a listen! Hope you like it :)

Not usually my style but I quite enjoyed the song... quite a stretch from Alter Bridge! Very C&W but has that deep south blues sound which is what hooked me I think.

Think it's his way to write songs which are too (personal) emotional and to quiet for Alter Bridge. Glad you like it! :)

Yeah, I've never been a fan of Alter Bridge to be honest. I would prefer this any day of the week.
