Turn op that BASS, we probably all know the cool basslines.

There is always some good discussions between musicians about the Bass guitar. Is it a solo instrument or just the rhythm.... I think it's about taste (some people can stand the solo portions of a bass while others love them). But for me for sure is that the bassguitar takes a very important part in music. If it's there (in mucis) no one notices it, when it's not there everybody misses it... :)

So I would like to show you some songs where, for me, the bass is the determining factor which makes the song.. I will kick of with the first ten...

Iggy Pop - Lust for life

The bass is what carries this song. the riff is so well known that if you play this riff alone, without drums and guitar, people will still recognize it..

Queen - Another one bytes the dust

John Deacon got immortal with this bass riff. Whenever this song is played you see a lot of people playing the air-bass..

Michael Jackson - Come together

Although it is a Beatles song, I personally like the MJ version better. This is just one of those songs you can use for games like 'Guess the intro' :) You know it from out a million...

Metallica - From whom the bell tols

Cliff Burton, the metallica legacy..... I often hear bassplayers playing this riff in soundchecks and stuff :)

Red hot chilli peppers - Give it away

Flea is the funkrock bassplayer all times if you ask me... His dry funky sound combined with his excellent playskills...
and the man is crazy, so all the ingredients.... The give it away bassline is the motor behind this song...

James Brown - I feel good

Do I need to say more? ......

Bon Jovi - Living on a prayer

Think of this song without the bass....and the power is gone... Funny that the bassplayer Hugh Mcdonald is always on the background....even dispite he plays such a great basses ;)

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

Again a MJ song. I played this song some tima ago on Steemit. The power of this song lies within it's bassline..simple but strong...

Vanilla ICE - Ice Ice Baby

Perhaps the most known bassline from a 'hip hop'song. Of course a sample from the timeless song 'Under Pressure' by Queen.

Mötorhead - Ace of spades

Lemmy, good old Lemmy... May he rest in peace...His technique is somewhat between playing guitar (strumming) and bass...But this line is so typical for the song....

Have a great day, and keep bass low :)

Bass is underappreciated. There are so many great bass lines and players. When I was playing my version of China Girl I was imaging the bass in there. I may have to play it with my bass pal some time

Yes indeed often the bass is underappreciated while it can form a song. There are so many bassplayers who put their mark on music, and looking forward to the version of china girl with a bassplayer (if you recording it of course)... Wil post some more great bass tunes later on !!

I just thought of a Police song I want to do that could also benefit from bass. I could ask my daughter to play on it

That would be cool, The Police has some great basslines as well... And would be fun making music with your daughter !!

Glad to see you threw some Bon Jovi in there! Billie Jean is one of the first ones I thought of when I read the first part of your post.

I think you are a big Bon Jovi fan aren't you ? :) They made some great music. I saw them once in the Amsterdam Arena, way back. Great show, great musicians.. Yes, Billie Jean is a typical example of "The bass makes the music" :)

Yeah, my wife more so than me. She has probably seen them five or six times. I have seen them three that I can recall. They always put on a good show.

True that !! and they are the kind of band who are better live as on album I think.. It's less smooth, rougher guitar, rougher vocals...

Yeah, they play with the melodies and stuff too. I used to hate that, but I don't mind it so much now. The shows are always sold out, it is nuts that they are still going strong after so long.
