I'm about to prove I'm both the whitest and slowest man on the planet:
People have been raving about the musical "Hamilton", but... guys, I don't like rap and I don't like hip-hop. I'm sure it's very good, the style is just not my thing. I've heard plenty of rap/hip-hop and it's just not to my taste. Also, as I've aged, my hearing tends to muddle voices, and I can't quite make out the lyrics, but it doesn't really matter because... well... "hiphop".
At the urging of a friend I'm listing to Hamilton, and doing so with the lyrics in front of me.
With absolutely no hyperbole, this is a work of staggering genius in the art of musical storytelling and will occupy a place in the pantheon of extraordinary lyric works among giants like "Les Miserables", and "Madame Butterfly".
I'm entirely comfortable naming Lin Manuel-Miranda a lyric genius.
Yes, I realize I am the last person on earth to realize this.
If you love musicals and if it turns out I'm not the last person on earth to hear "Hamilton", hear it. The hype doesn't do it justice.
