Music Monday #2: Mosquitos, Into Dust, Halycon On and On

Last week I did my first Music Monday post, inspired by @metametheus and @perceptualflaws. I decided I don't listen to music half as much as I used to, and need to set myself that habit again as I love it so much - it's always been a huge part of my life and a wicked natural medicine for my soul. Choose to ignore me or drop your own track below that might springboard off my song choices this week. I'll upvote every comment that gives me a song to listen to! I plan to limit myself to 3 songs only, which is quite impossible for me to do!

Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything - Plato

Given Spring is here and I'm dashing around trying to get rid of anywhere mozzies might breed, this song has been haunting me. We used to listen to this album a lot when it first came out and I was super enjoying it in the sunshine the other day. The lyrics are self explanatory: no more mosquitos. A mosquito noise would be my old man's version of hell. The song isn't hell though - it's bloody lovely.

I play this one sometimes in a yin yoga session. There's something lovely and langurous about it and suited my mood today. It always gives me that feeling of melting - or turning into dust.

Still falling
Breathless and on again
Inside today
Beside me today
Around, broken in two
Till your eyes shed
Into dust
Like two strangers
Turning into dust
Till my hand shook
With the way I fear

I could possibly be fading
Or have something more to gain
I could feel myself growing colder
I could feel myself under your fate
Under your fate

It was you
Breathless and tall
I could feel my eyes turning into dust
And two strangers
Turning into dust
Turning into dust

My man's leaving for England in about a month's time and I'm staying here to enjoy the sunshine in Australia. He needs to catch up with his Mum and sister and I'm so glad we can afford at least his planefare so he can do that. I can't imagine living too far from my family now - I've done it before and whilst it was a good time in my life to do it, now I'd miss them terribly. Sister in law rang the other day to say she's got him and her tickets to see Orbital at Brixton Academy, London, and I'm terribly, awfully gutted.

Enjoy - this fits my pensive mood today nicely with the above two tracks.

What tracks are you taking flight with this week?

Drop your tunes below - I'll upvote every single one of them! Make my Monday musical!

Hey my friend, hope you're well .. great choices this week! it's been a long day and I have a cold, so tonight I'm chilling with the trigger hippies and reliving some old memories :D

Sorry to hear that. I haven't even visited your music Monday as I lost track of time and the week has been so busy but I will drop you a late tune when I settle down maybe later on tonight. I love morcheeba so this was a fantastic choice. It is one of those things I listen to about every 3 or 4 years and then think to myself why don't I listen to it more often. I guess I just forget. I am about to drive down to the coast for a surf so I'm going to listen to them on the way down. Thanks mate love you

Ah yes same here my friend, I seem to forget them for ages and then remember their brilliance at just the right time :) And no worries about my #musicmonday post .. I'm having trouble keeping up myself at the moment so that's cool. Hope you have an amazing surf .. I keep forgetting it's your summer, it's becoming a distant memory here lol Lots of love for you @riverflows :)

Four Tet! That has been a while. Or, to be honest, a year or six/ seven.

I remember I received a bunch of mp3s ( lost all this music, saved it on an external hard drive ) of the guy with whom I was making short films from 2010 to 12. Four Tet was one of the bands that I got to hear for the first time. Pretty different from the stuff I was used to but I liked it. Never heard of their mosquito song though, haha!

Here's my recommendation. I would recommend an entire album but you asked for a song, so here goes:

And if you've got time to spare and are interested in how I got to know this band, I wrote a post about their music 7 months ago...
