Seven Day Music Way Back Challenge - Superstition

in musicwaybackchallenge •  7 years ago  (edited)

So @doomsdaychassis nominated me for this and I liked the concept, so here we are. Now I have to think of seven songs from high school that had an impact on me. I guess I could pick one from each of the four years I spent in grade 9 and pick the other three from when I spent a couple of months in grade 10.

Superstition - Stevie Ray Vaughan

Where do I begin?

I was at a teen dance at the Baltimore Arena, (Ontario, not Maryland) with my old friend Dave Cunnington and a couple of girls. I struck out with mine, but I scored a big win when I won the last album of the night.

They used to do "spot dances" where the DJ would stop the music and everyone had to freeze. They would then guide a person through the dance floor by telling them how many steps in certain directions they would take.

I got chosen and went to get my prize.

I was bummed out. Who the hell was Stevie Ray Vaughan? At that time I was into pop and some country, so this sucked. I also didn't have a record player in my room.

Shit, the song's over.

Anyhow, I went to the garage and listened to it on my stepdad's record player and it changed my life and musical taste for the first time in my known life.

The rules:
*Choose one song from your high-school/college years.
*Write a few words about who made you listen to this song for the first time, what this song means to you (was it a breakup song? you blasted it at 100% on your audio system when you were partying with your friends?) whatever you want.
*Write your text while listening to the song. As soon as the song ends, wrap up what you where writing and submit it.
*Do this for 7 days in a row if you get nominated.
*Mention one person who should do this on each day.
*Tag it with #musicwaybackchallenge and include these rules at the bottom of your post.

I want to nominate @reactionaries, because I know she will love this challenge.

Stevie was a fucking master. I absolutely love this song by him.

Yeah, he really opened up music for me and it reminds me of a crazy story I should write out.
