While not a perfect analogy, so much of Musk has a Theranos feel to it. People wanted both to work so much they overlooked the obvious flaws and issues.
The image of both took on mythic distortions that were heavily curated. A lot of the valuations put the cart before the horse regarding viability and development. Both significantly overpromised. Both tapped government investment and backing as a key channel. Criticisms faced violent backlash. Both Holmes and Musk punished whistleblowers. Both engaged in manipulation.
Of course contrary to Theranos, Musk has delivered good products, I'm mostly speaking of everything else around them and how both were treated.
