let me briefly introduce you to my town by the name ABEOKUTA meaning;
to seek refuge under the rock.
It is a town which is well known as the capital city of a well known state in Nigeria; OGUN STATE. the name of the state was coined by the ancient dwellers of the town who gave the city its name because of the event that took place then. I know you might be wondering what was the event that took place that brought about the name of this town, well let me give you a little hint about the history of the town:
The town was discovered by a very brave hunter in the year 1830 who led the Egbas from the Oyo dynasty after series of issues arose in the Oyo dynasty. When the place was discovered, it was filled with rocks, and of most importance was the OLUMO ROCK. A war broke out after the people had settled down in the town in the year 1851. God so loving the people, gave them the wisdom to hide under the largest rock in the town that is the OLUMO ROCK.
Those who tried to destroy them were unable to locate them not knowing were they hid. Till the war came to an end after a period of two years, the Egba indigenes were under the rock maintaining their living and doing everything that needed to be done there. They even created rooms there for shelter. I was able to know all this because i went on an excursion to the Olumo rock and the tour guide explained everything to me.
The paramount ruler of my town who is also the paramount ruler of all the Egbas is known as
the Alake of Egba land whose real name is Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.
More things you need to know about my town is the presence of the well known tourist center that is Olumo rock
and apart from this, you also need to know that the major work of the people of my town is farming.
the latest statistics which was released by the ministry of Agriculture revealed that my town is the highest producer of Cassava; a major staple food in the country.
The following are also agricultural products which are produced by farmers in my town and they include:
Rice
Yam
Corn [maize]
Palm oil and kernels
Cotton
Fruits and vegetables
Cocoa and so on.
Now back to business; following the title of the contest which is a tour around my town. I was able to take videos of my town while i was on bike with my Infinix note three phone. I used the back camera which is 13 mp and also the bike was running at a minimum speed of 40km/hr. I am unable to upload some because they got corrupted. Enjoy watching the videos
