Around Mt Shasta in northern California, one can regularly observe lenticular clouds.
The photos in this post are from a few days ago when the sky was particularly active with lenticular cloud formations appearing and disappearing. I drove around to find interesting locations to photograph the mountain, and each time I got out of the car, the sky had changed.
Conventional belief is that these are simply natural weather phenomena, but the spiritual community here sees them in a wider perspective. Whenever I see them, I feel a sense of awe and peacefulness. Many times a singular cloud appears above Mt Shasta, but sometimes they appear in a different locations, (relatively) far from the mountain. And sometimes, like this day, they appear in formations. It was early in the day when I saw the largest formation and unfortunately I didn't stop to take a picture (I was driving my son to school, so I was on a mission) then. Just a few minutes later the scene had changed already and there were not as many individual clouds left.
I drove to the north side of Mt Shasta (my favorite area because it's a high desert with many good views on the mountain itself). When I got out the car, the many smaller lenticular clouds were mostly gone but a single one had formed above the mountain.
And a few minutes later a few others materialized as well.
By the time I got back home around noon, most lenticular clouds had dissipated and the sky as a whole was very active. There was one huge formation that I saw as I was driving on the freeway but I wasn't in a position to stop, and once I got off the freeway, only a ghost image of that formation remained (to be seen here to the right of the mountain).

Amazing! I totally understand your feelings when watching this weather phenomenons!I have never seen something like this in reality. Seems like clouds like this don't appear everywhere. By the way - you live in a beautiful environment!

Thanks, it certainly is beautiful here!
These lenticular clouds can be seen here regularly, typically one big cloud above the mountain. It isn't often as active like on this photo day.

Captivating photo. Those cloud formations almost look like their fake. Nature is full of surprises.

Awesome cloud-photography! I once saw a lenticular in Spain (we don't get those in Belgium) - and while driving for 2-3 hours it didn't change it's shape nor location... I didn't know what think of it then, and still don't know :)
Except clouds are awesome! :)

Thanks! It's interesting, sometimes a lenticular cloud will stay stationary for a long time around Mt Shasta, but other times like on this day, they materialize and dematerialize within a few minutes...

We have Mt Hood. There is always a cloud above the top, which looks like a hood of the mountain. I thought it could be the name comes from:P
Nice shot!

Thanks! Looks like Mt Hood is very similar to Mt Shasta, both startovolcanoes in the Cascade Range along the Pacific Northwest...
