DWARF

Dwarves often appear in Norse legends as well as Germans. They live in Nidavellir, one of the nine worlds created by gods though they seem to also live in Midgard, the human world. According to Prose Edda, dwarfs were created from maggots that ate the dead meat of the dead Ymir.

These maggots turn into dwarves. The first dwarf named Modsognir while the other was named Durin. There is another type of dwarf called black elves or Svartálfar, who live in Svartalfheim. Do not be confused even though the name is black elves, but they are still part of the dwarf. Black elves live underground.

dwarf self-depiction is apparently human-like, but smaller and shorter. They are long bearded and look older than their size. Despite their slow run and not being adept at riding horses, they were able to defend the territory well.

They live in caves in the mountains. There they dug in mining goods such as gold, silver, iron, and so on. They are also skillful weapons and ironmakers. They usually trade goods from metal.

The dwarves are great blacksmiths, where they make magical things for the gods and heroes. In Nordic mythology, they create an inheritance chain that is able to bind the fierce wolf, Fenrir. However, dwarves also have a bad reputation because they are described as greedy thieves.

here are the dwarves that often appear in Norse mythology :

  • Modsognir and Durin
  • Lofar
  • Dvalin
  • Sons Of Ivaldi
  • Brokk & Eiti
  • Fjalar dan Galar
  • Andvar
  • Alberich
