Finally we see an example of a top criminal connected to the even bigger criminals at Goldman Sachs arrested and charged! Let us hope that this stands as a deterrent to future would be dictators and an example to people across the world that their crooked leaders can be toppled and prosecuted for their crimes.
Najib Razak Malaysia's ex PM, was arrested and charged in court yesterday! ☀️
Malaysia deserves to be applauded for it's desire for accountability and change. A massive vote of thanks also deserves to go to Clare Rewcastle Brown the editor of Sarawak Report who has doggedly reported on these crimes and continues to cover the plight of the indigenous people of Sarawak and the destruction of one of our world's two lungs. Clare has withstood the most appalling attacks and must surely have been concerned for her life at some points. Those of you who are not familiar with Clare's website should find much of interest there.
On a personal note I am relieved because my own coverage of these issues on the Steemit blockchain made me eligible for arrest and imprisonment in Malaysia. Now that a full and public trial will take place on these issues I feel confident that my writing will be vindicated.
A Long Trail Of Crimes
Najib Razak Malaysia's ex PM has been accused of myriad crimes including massive theft, bribery and murder amongst other things. The theft of public money from his pet project 1MDB is the largest kleptocracy case ever investigated by the US DoJ and is estimated to be worth several billion dollars!
During his time as PM investigations were shut down while members of his family spent big buying properties in Hollywood and New York, producing films such as Wolf of Wall Street and purchasing art, yachts and jewelry worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Najib used his dictatorial powers to imprison or murder those who opposed him confident that his party would remain in power as Malaysia until recently was a democracy only in name. However his excesses along with those of his wife and family appalled the Malaysian public enough that even with his blatant election rigging and gerrymandering they voted him out.
What Is Najib Being Charged With?
Although Najib has been accused of myriad crimes the specific charges he is facing now are almost identical to the ones that a previous Attorney General (AG) prepared agains him. Najib had the charges squashed and removed that previous AG from his post.
As Najib sits in jail on remand now he is facing charges of abuse of power and criminal breach of trust amongst others. The noose is also tightening around the necks of his family and extended group of criminals. It is claimed that his stepson Riza Aziz produced the film Wolf of Wall Street with stolen money. Riza has now been summoned to give his statements to investigators. One of the main facilitators of the theft Jho Low has now had his passport revoked and is being sought by several territories around the world.
When Will Goldman Sachs Be Charged?
A true investigation into this case would not be compete without charging Goldman Sachs and their boss in Asia who facilitated the initial theft and in a business of high profits made unusually enormous fees and bonuses for their assistance. Goldman Sachs also needs to be charged for these thefts and those responsible deserve to appear in a Malaysian court and face the consequences of their crimes.
In the end it was the poor people of Malaysia who will have to shoulder the burden of the repayments of these thefts! It sometimes seems like we see the same story played out again and again with the poor people always loosing. However this particular case gives us hope. Although democracy is a flawed concept often described as two wolves and a sheep voting on who gets to eat who for dinner, in this case the sheep won.
The criminal prosecution of this case is being undertaken by the new AG Tommy Thomas who has a reputation for honesty and integrity. I hope that these trails convict those responsible including members of Goldman Sachs and exposes the injustices that occur agains Malaysia's indigenous populations on the island of Borneo.
Najib woke up to day in a custodial cell. Let us hope that this pampered criminal has many more cold breakfasts awaiting him in the decades to come. Not only will that represent a small effort to balance the equation on behalf of the people of Malaysia but let us also hope that it will lead to further prosecutions which will stand as a deterrence to other would be thieves and dictators.
When the nation's people have to suffer nobody should be above the law! Long live a free and unrestricted media! Clare Rewcastle Brown should be a Tan Sri! 😉

Unfortunately there is no custodial cell. Najib is out on a RM 1 million bail.
His case is scheduled for early 2019.

It is admirable that Malaysia gives this kind of example to the world, by arresting and accusing Najib Razak, former prime minister of so many crimes. God willing that other countries follow the example, because there is much corruption in many countries from where all kinds of crimes are committed. Congratulations.
