Napster, which was created by Shawn Fanning in 1999, was a P2P network used to share music files. In A&M Records Inc v. Napster Inc, it was held that the defendant’s P2P network was liable for copyright infringement. This was one of the first cases to address the intersection of copyright laws and P2P networks.
