Bird Day - NationalDays Challenges

How can I resist a Bird Day challenge! This challenge comes from the amazing @dmcamera and the easy rules are here-NationalDays Challenge

Yesterday I noticed the first rose breasted grosbeaks of the season out in the yard! While I was taking this photo I was buzzed by a hummingbird and realized they are migrating north now, too, and while I was hanging out the hummingbird feeder, I noticed this female grosbeak sitting on the deck.

image

Her breathing appeared labored, and she did not have the energy to fly away from me. I think the flight north was just too much for her this year.

She hopped around on the deck a little, and I sat and talked to her and reassured her that she was safe, but the rest of the flock flew on without her, and by afternoon she had died.

I read that grosbeaks live 12 years in the wild, and up to 24 years in captivity. I like to think she simply died peacefully of old age. Poor thing.

Oh, yeah! My favorite! Great shot, Andy!

Stunning photos with great details @melinda010100 It is sad to see animals and birds suffering but at least you were able to give her some comfort before she died.

Thanks, Trudee! The woods are alive right now with bird song. It is such a joy after our silent winter.

Wonderful sounds to match to magic of Spring Melinda. 😊

😭😭😭To every thing there is a season....it was poor old bird's time.

I think it was. I was glad she was safe and could enjoy her last minutes in the sun!

Looks a little bit like the bird that we have here. Sad story of that bird the circle of life.

Beautiful bird

Thanks- they are beauties!
