This is a "how to" post on closing a wound with butterfly stitches, made from adhesive tape.
Adhesive tape stitches, from a prepper first aid kit; to close a significant wound!
While repairing a broken window at a rental house today I got Crossways with a five foot pane of glass. It cut the side my left little finger down to the nail bed, then the glass skidded along the nail leaving a skin flap.

Since skin flaps don't Stitch back down well, the only good option was the butterfly stitch. To keep this damage closed. The damage look like this:

When prepping we need to be ready to handle situations like this. I went to my first aid kit, to close the wound. I usually have butterfly stitches prepared ahead of time and taped on the inside of the first aid kit in the lid. But I didn't do that this time, so I had to cut the butterfly stitch with one hand. Here's what it looks like when you take a piece of adhesive tape and folded in half, and cut a butterfly stitch.

Notice that the cut it I actually taped it on my finger and then folded it and tape the back on the back of my finger. This way it's stable to cut and I can unfold it after the cutting is done.

Once cut, the butterfly stitch is unfolded and you end up with the final form. This final form it's taped across the damaged area just tight enough to hold the flap closed. Too much pressure at this stage will deprive the flap of blood flow and it won't heal!

Here is a properly applied butterfly stitch closing the skin flap. This butterfly stitch will be left on for about a week fill out healing to occur.

Once a butterfly stitch is applied you still need to protect, or cover the wound. You can use a Band-Aid, but with this level of damage I wanted a little more padding so I used some cotton gauze and tape. Before I applied this bandage, I applied lavender essential oil, and comfrey tincture to the wound to aid healing.

The bandage can be changed as needed to keep it clean and to check for infection. But the butterfly stitch must remain in place for at least a week. It is taking the place of suturing which doesn't work on a skin flap anyway. The final bandage and Butterfly will look like this:

Please note the roller bottles. These are from my first aid kit, and are the lavender oil and comfrey tincture.

In a week when the butterfly is removed be sure and strip the tape at 90 degrees to the wound. Take your time, and you pull it at right angles; across the wound. If it's pulled directly across the healing area, it sometimes opens it back up and you'll need to go through another week of healing!

Repairs (first aid) now will speed repairs after the SHTF situation occurs. Now is the time to start and get used to doing it while you still have a backup option. When things Crash and Burn is not the time to learn proper first aid techniques!

Stay safe, be blessed, and get ready for anything!

NOW, If I can just be more careful....

ROFLOL!

Yes maybe some leather gloves when carrying around glass :-)

Yes, except a 60+ inch piece of glass is hard to find, and expensive, so dropping it with leather gloves is not an option either.

Just will have to be more careful when I go back to install it!

:'(

True.

I think that will be easy for me, LOL!

What if things don't ever crash and burn? I don't think they will. I think everything is going to be hunky dory for the rest of our lives as we retire in peace and abundant prosperity! lol.

Then I just saved myself the pain, time loss, and cost of a trip to the doctor, and will have a smaller scar....

And I don't have to go back to have the stitches removed either, LOL!

we retire in peace and abundant prosperity

When did you go liberal on me, ROFLOL?

:)>

lol! hey the libs are saying the world is coming to an end under Trump remember? The destruction that saint obummer wrought was heavenly and whatever happens under Trump's watch is pure hell!

To Satan and his minions, Heaven is Hell, so that is true for them; in a sick sort of way!

The liberal rant makes a lot more sense if you remember that everything they blame others for is their own work product; and that they happily work for the Devil, to bring hell on Earth. Then it all fits, SMH!

>:(

True, I wish people understood how the devil works because that's exactly what the dems have always done and it makes it very confusing to the regular joe sixpack who doesn't understand that, it makes the public just think that both parties are lying through their teeth.

When in truth the liberals lie 100% of the time, and then blame it on everyone else, 100% of the time! Then the MSM backs them up, 100% of the time.

These are Evil people, doing Evil things; following their Evil Master!

Hey smithlabs have you ever looked into mechanic's liens or property liens or anything like that? Or does your knowledge base stop with guns and batteries? lol.

I bought a car with a mechanics lean, and gave it to my Dad years ago. I am looking at a property lein right now....

BUT I like guns and Batteries more, LOL!

Okay let's begin with some information. I am an herbalist so I heal unreasonably quickly! 2 Days in I'm right about what would be normal for 10 days for someone who is not an herbalist. So do not use this timeline and pull these butterfly stitches in just a few days like I have done! You need to leave these on for at least a week and 10 days is better.

But I wanted to show you what you could expect to find and 10 days of normal healing. This cut goes along the outside of my fingernail which kept it from going deeper thankfully, but it was 3/16 deep maybe 3/8 inch wide and this cut was at least 3/8 inch long.

Here is the wound with a butterfly stitches removed:

The tissue is blanchable, so the blood flow has returned, and the wound is closed, even at the edge of the nail itself.

This is a very effective way to close a wound, especially when faced with an emergency; where help is not available!

Prepare, and thrive!
