This is our future. No idea if this company is for real, but the concepts are solid. CO2 pulled from the atmosphere via excess electricity from solar farms, mixed with H2 from water, to generate natural gas at scale. This unit is the size of two semi trailers, and is projected to cost $100k.
They claim about 1/3 energy efficiency, which could produce methane at a low enough cost to replace some of the hard-to-electrify applications like air travel where battery energy density isn't up to the task. (Methane is easy to convert to other hydrocarbons.) It makes methane carbon-neutral. If it's powered with "waste" electricity when solar production overruns demand, it could be very cost effective.
