Do We Live Healthy Lives to Avoid or Postpone Death?

This is me living my healthy lifestyle :

I would like to start with two facts:

  1. Death is inevitable as everyone knows.
So all of us will die one day, no matter we live healthy or unhealthy, eventually death is the final destination.
  1. By living healthy lifestyle we can postpone our death.
Yes eating spicy food can burn your stomach walls and result in esophagus irritation which will result in decreasing your life span. Your body not moving enough can make your blood flow slower resulting in diseases and early death.

But when death has to come, it will, no matter how much yoga you do, how many fruits you eat. Nothing you do would help, healthy - unhealthy, none of the lifestyle would work.

Let me tell you my weird story of recent sickness, also the first ever sickness series of my body.

I am a 25 years old female from India. I am very health conscious, I have been doing yoga since 8 years. I make sure I eat one fruit everyday, I keep moving, I bathe two times a day. I do everything that can be summed up as a habit of Healthy lifestyle. I avoid junkfood everyday, I do it only in style 'Pizza in a party' or whenever I am out or with friends.

One normal day, in october 2018, I went on a restaurant hunt in a very famous market Bani-square here in Gurgaon, India. That particular day, I ate from 4 restaurants in total including everything from snack to desert. At the end of that day, I ate some 30 grilled mushrooms. I am non allergic to mushrooms and have been eating them since I was a child. So I am not sure if I should blame mushrooms for spoiling my body, my life after that day.

Next day, I felt my throat is sore. After couple of days, I developed a cough. Being the strong healthy person that I was, I did not take the cough seriously. It went on for a week and then I started having trouble breathing while laying down. As the condition worsened, I went to a doctor and got to know I have Bronchitis.

Well Ok, it really hit my mental strength, since I used to consider myself an epitome of good health.

Then after recovering from Bronchitis, I got GERD with very bad heartache. Acid would flow up no matter what I eat. I went to chest specialist and got ant-acid pills. Since I was and I am a total anti-medicine person, I could not go on pills forever and made some lifestyle adjustments - A heavy green meal a day to neutralize my PH levels.

Christmas came and just when I was winning over GERD, I got a skin disease - really bad one, ugly patches on body. And this made me laugh sarcastically on myself since I am a super conscious person when it comes to skincare.

And while fighting the skin disease I snapped my neck one day and got Neck spondylitis. It is till this day, I am fighting acid reflux and weak nerves of my body.

I can stand in front of mirror and laugh at myself today because of my story above. No matter how much you do, what healthy habits you include, scientifically they are supposed to help you. But when something has to happen to you, it will and you will have no power to stop it.

Your stars will mess you up.

What I believe is, we are not living healthy to avoid or postpone death. We are living healthy because we are scared, scared of dying, scared of disease and scared of looking ugly/obese.

A very interesting story of your life and the way you go. Diseases always signals to us that something is wrong in our life. They help us to get the right way and don´t wanna harm us. Long time I thought that a disease is a terrible thing. Since I was a teenager I had skin problems, pimples all over my skin. I felt ugly and worthless. I tried so many things with eating healthy food and it was a long process to get a better skin. But it´s possible and that makes you strong.

You are right that someday we all will die, but I think that´s not our final end of life. Our soul is immortal and we fear is not needed! We are here to makes experiences.

Our soul is immortal, totally right.

At the end, we are here to live in the best way possible. Eating healthy food helps but our destination is same :)

My worry is not postponing death. Rather, being certain that I can live in my final years. It is sad to see older people who can no longer walk or care for themselves because of poor health. And they exist, not live, like this for years.

I want my last years to be full of life, not aches and illness. By taking care of oneself, it is preventing disability.

Oh so touching.

Yes Its an agony to see old people not being able to take care of themselves. I also wish that till the time I breathe I want to be able to take care of myself.

I will wish the same for you too :)

I can stand in front of mirror and laugh at myself today because of my story above.

Isn't that what makes life interesting? The ups and downs bring it all together. Maybe it also makes us appreciate all the little things and at the same time make us want to do better.
This can go hand in hand with reminding us of how little is really under our control.
It is not how long you live, but how valuable have you made your life.

You are right, this all has actually grown me.

From a person who is not so compassionate to sick people, I have become a very humble one.
What i feel now is : Sometimes you need go through some things in life to actually know how it feels.

and thankyou for curating :)

The question put up by @naturalmedicine seems very funny to me. Is there really anyone here who strives to avoid death!

Well, whatever! You can talk and explain about health to only a sick person. To a healthy person, health is inexplicable!

Here's a personal note from me:
Take a tea spoon full of sodium bicarbonate with a fresh lemon juice in a glass, fill it with water and drink instantly. Do this every morning on empty stomach.

Your stars won't try to mess you on this! Good luck!

hmm I will work on that personal note, will give it a try tomorrow morning :)

I'm sorry for your health conditions, @vibesforlife. I am 60 now and have suffered some of my own over the years. It's not easy to be sick and everyone wants to tell you how to feel better even if they do not suffer the same thing.

You seem to have a wonderful attitude despite it all. I think the best you can do is keep that optimism, keep trying different ideas and stick with what helps. We never know when our end will come. It is the day-to-day that matters most.

Glad that you can connect with my experience. As i am growing older, there is a fact that has enlightened my soul : You need to feel some things to be able to understand them.

Being sick is one of those feelings.

My mother is a person who has fought many big diseases, While taking care of here I just used to blabber "you will be fine dont worry"

But when I got sick and I was in pain, I literally started wishing death on me. I could not take the pain and thought I better die, my perfect body is gone. I could not feel my lungs and felt that I am gonna feel them again.

All this made me realised, its easy to say "you will be fine to a sick person", but the feel is altogether different.

You are so right about that, @vibesforlife. It is impossible for a healthy person to understand someone who is sick - especially with something chronic. Support groups save me often so that I can connect with people who understand.

Yeah that is so true,
sometimes people can only understand after they have sufferred themselves.
