I am certain it is sunflower.

Knew I should have kept that out of sight

My first thought was pumpkin, but I knew the true leaves were the wrong shape for that.

Then I remembered sunflowers also have those big leaves, and the slugs attack my garden as soon as they find these.

True, pumpkins have a completely different shape of leaf - I hate growing pumpkins. I can only grow a handful of veggies and fruits because of the monkeys. I tried getting the tomatoes going again but as soon as they start turning red the monkeys are in them like flies to shit. I've asked around and apparently, if you leave cut chillies to stand in water with some sugar and a bit of vinegar, this mix once strong enough can be sprayed onto plants to deter insects as well as monkeys from having a go at them. I'm yet to try but if it seems to work I'll definitely pop an article on here about that. Not sure how it would affect snails but some advice that I can offer you is to use eggs shells! Break a few eggs shells wherever you need them to stay away from - I hate killing things but people need to eat. Also, there was something about cucumber but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

Ants! Ants hate cucumber. You can leave slices of cucumber near the plants to keep them away.

I don't like cucumber either. I only eat it on salad because it is good for me, and I smother it under dressing.

Pumpkin is my white giraffe this year. I'm determined to get it to work once in my life. Will this year be the big one?
