Steemit Goes Hiking - Waterfalls in Western North Carolina

in nature •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hello fellow Steemians... Today I hiked out to a awesome waterfall in the wilderness of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This location is off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, off Forest Service Road 816, to the Sam Knob Trail. This area is called the Shining Rock Wilderness, the shining Rock area is also a core part of the Cherokee Creation Stories.

This hike begins by making the way down Laural Creek (near Laural Flats), here we can see the creeks joining together.

The creeks run at the base of Sam Knob (that is the side of the Knob in the photo).

As the creek runs, it gets much stronger.

Until the the creek turns into a giant waterslide!!!

You can slide down this whole thing! And there is never anyone out this deep in the wilderness (except bears)!

The slide goes on for about 1/4 mile!

And there are plenty of black berries for snacking.

Unfortunately, the blueberries weren't ripe yet.

Sun is going down, time to hike out....

See you next time...

The Carolina sunset/sunrise is the best.
