A pair of Pleated Ink Cap mushrooms (Parasola plicatilis, Coprinus plicatilis)

As a means of dispersing their spores, these mushrooms will begin to liquify from the bottom up into a black goo resembling ink, inspiring their common name. They are a prolific species found throughout North America, taking on the dirty work of your average micro decomposer.
