Daily Nature Fix: 168-Year-Old Graffiti. (Original Photos)

Good evening, friends! Finally writing up one of these things at a decent hour. Tonight's Daily Nature Fix is going to be one of those oddball ones where it's not super nature-y. It's about something we came across while snooping around some old castle ruins in Northern Ireland.

"T.S.A. 1850 ⚔︎" was scribed into a wall. Damn decent handwriting too, I might add! There was also what appeared to be dozens of crosses or swords. How cool is that? Graffiti that was made a good decade before the American Civil War started. I love history; always have. It was awesome to be in a place that had building remains that were 500+ years older than my entire home country.

Dunluce Castle was home to these inscription. Though it was built and rebuilt a few times, the original construction took place in the 1200's. I was super intrigued poking around this place the hole time, but I especially like looking around in the dark corners and off the beaten path a bit. Even though I'm sure thousands upon thousands of people lay their eyes upon the same things I did, I still get a small sense of adventure/exploration... as cheesy as it sounds.

The photo above was taken moments before we "discovered" the inscription. The graffiti was found INSIDE the chimney, quite a ways above me. I still wonder what T.S.A. was?? I'd assume someones initials? I should try to look it up sometime.

I'd love to see this myself

Good content. A very historic ancient building. The scenery is also beautiful. The writing on the stone is just plain writing that might have been written by the one who had found the place. May be!!! Thanks @customnature

How are the letters and the ⚔︎ so perfect? It’s amazing

That's another great piece of history!

I love ruins as well. I like what you call graffiti, the ancient scribbling on the wall of the castle. In South Africa we also have some unique graffiti - the so-called Bushman (or San) paintings on the inside of caves. I do not have any photographs of examples around at the moment, but I plan to explore that part of this beautiful country's history in the near future.
