Daily Nature Fix: Nature in Black & White. (Original Photos)

in nature •  7 years ago

Good evening, Steemit members. For tonight's Daily Nature Fix, I picked a few random photos and switched them over to black and white. Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of black and white photography, but it's nice to change things up once in a while. I should rephrase that. I'm not a huge fan of LANDSCAPE photography in black and white. Anyway, lets take a gander.

^^^This first one is my favorite in the batch. This was taken at McDonald Creek in Glacier National Park. I almost hated to remove the color from this photo because the water is actually a beautiful aqua blue... but it's still neat in grayscale!

^^^This one was taken just outside of Juneau, Alaska. We were fortunate enough to see small group of humpback whales while on the water. All of a sudden, two of them started jumping around! I took a ton of photos but, sadly ,most of them are out of focus or blurred by water on the lens. This is one of the clear ones right as one of the whales slammed back down into the salt water.

^^^This was taken high up on a mountain ridge that surrounds the small town of Sete Cidades on the island Sao Miguel in the Azores. The ridge we were on, as well as the ones in the distance, are part of a massive volcano caldera. The entire archipelago was made from volcanic activity.

Whales are incredible!! So awesome you captured that shot just in the nick of time!

Thanks! That was probably the #1 animal encounter of my life... so far.

I love that final shot. There’s so much depth to it.

Thanks! The Azores is probably one of the best places I've gone for sprawling landscapes. The entire island is littered with amazing scenic overlooks called miradoras (I think). I really need to compile them into one post, at some point.

That would look amazing I’m sure. I need to add it to places to visit. 😊

Very well done. Incredible photos and an amazing view from top of the mountains. Looks breathtaking :)

Awesome photography beauty bites whether it is in black and white or colored . It has its own crismatisium . Any way nice work . Regards and Good morning . Looking forward for your upvote

I know how much you love that aqua blue! Sometimes black and white makes me notice things I didn't see before, especially shadows. I think it's a good study! Love the photos, especially the whales.

Ha! It's so funny that you remembered that. I've mentioned in here several times that I have a thing for seeing blue water.

Wow! Great photos!!! I loved the third one... volcanos are magic :)

I'm also not a huge fan of black and white (except for really simple "dramatic" shots) but these did turn out quite well. Especially like the top one... perhaps because I have a weakness for Ansel Adams' work with landscapes. Nature is magnificent, either way!
