Krka

Krka National Park is the seven beautiful cascades of waterfalls, two ancient monasteries, amazingly picturesque landscapes and a feeling of unity with nature that can not be expressed in words. Located in Northern Dalmatia, not far from Šibenik, Krka is considered to be the best place for a cognitive excursion, which ends with a refreshing swim in the clear waters of the same name with the river park.
This national park is unique, its ecosystem, formed in the Krka river valley, is considered one of the richest and most beautiful in the whole of Croatia. A diverse natural world, unusual karst landscapes, a full-flowing river, carrying its waters through limestone rocks, waterfalls - only a part of the riches of this park.

Among the bright representatives of the Krka fauna, it is worth mentioning more than 200 species of birds, including rare golden eagles, as well as Adriatic salmon and Visovac trout.
Like the famous Plitvice Lakes, the Krka National Park for its visitors has laid convenient wooden paths and bridges, thanks to which you can freely move around the park and not harm the fragile nature. But what is especially pleasant: in Krka tourists can swim, there are specially designated for this area on the river.

But, of course, the main attractions of the national park are waterfalls. The most impressive, high and large is a cascade of 17 Skradinski Beech waterfalls, which falls from a height of 45 meters. In addition to it, there are waterfalls Biluchich Buck (22 meters), Brlyan (15 meters), Manoilovac (32 meters with a total drop of 60 meters), Rosnyak (8 meters), Milyachka Slap (24 meters) and Roshki Slap (main waterfall - 22.5 meters).

It would be unforgivable not to look at the two monasteries located in the park. The first one is the Franciscan monastery Visovac, which is located on the island of the same name in the middle of the Krka river. The monastery was founded in the 14th century, in 1445 passed to the Franciscans and expanded and reconstructed them. The second monastery is Orthodox Serbian, which was also founded in the 14th century. In the course of history, it was destroyed many times, in the 17th century Turks were wiped off the face of the earth almost completely, the last time the monastery complex was not fortunate enough to fall under the hot hand of the "Yugoslav" war. Fortunately, in 2001 the monastery was completely restored. Last but not least, the attraction of the Krka National Park is the Ethnographic Museum near the Skradinsky Beech waterfall. Here you can see water mills and an eccentric "washing machine", which operates on the energy of the waterfall.
