A couple of snaps I caught of one of the local kookaburras on my fence.

Australia has many fascinating & intelligent bird species. Many people train wild birds such as these to eat from the hand. They can become quite tame, but there's also the risk of interfering with their survival instincts so it is not recommended.

Groups of kookaburras can often can be heard early in the morning making a very noisy call which is generally described as a laugh. The name actually comes from "guuguubarra" which is the term used by the indigenous Wiradjuri people of Australia. The original use of that word was based on replicating the actual sound of the bird's call.

They are also known to kill and eat snakes
