Violin Praying Mantis
Today we continue with the special religious mantis, today it is the turn of the mantis violin, as its name indicates has a particular shape that resembles a violin, sometimes it will seem a little monotonous to talk about the characteristics of the mantis in general as they have practically the same lifestyle, however, there are things that differentiate them from each other. Come with me to learn more about the mantis violin.
One of the most interesting things about religious mantises is the way they are born, they are born thanks to the oothecae that are like a small sack in whose interior there is a certain amount of eggs, which are not placed until a certain time after the male has mated with the female, sometimes it can be a few days or in the case of other species it can put the ootheca after weeks.
Some species of religious mantis can be paternal genes, bone can procreate without the need for a male to copulate them, so they can place an ootheca from which only females will be born, this is a sophisticated mechanism of defense and protection of the species, to be born only females ensure the survival of the species since there will be a considerable number of mantis females in adult stage to be populated by some male.
As for the incubation process of the mantis varies greatly from one species to another, for example, in the mantis violin species can be born about 8 nymphs in its early stage of development, while there are other species that can place ootheques where up to 200 future mantis nymphs will be born, this species suffers metamorphic transformations where they are changing the primary cuticle, and thus progressively develop their legs and wings.
The change of a cuticle to the next stage of development is determined by food, and the environment where it develops, humidity and high temperatures are essential for the optimal growth of religious mantis. Therefore almost all species develop in South American and Asian tropics.
As far as the morphology of the mantis violin we have that its body is divided into 3 sensitive and mobile parts the head, the thorax, abdomen, they have 4 pairs of legs diversified in 2 legs used to capture their prey, 2 anterior and 2 posterior legs that allow the optimal mobilization by the bushes in where they live, 2 antennas receptor of movements, as well as of thermal sensations.
The head is perhaps the most important organ of the mantis, is equipped with powerful eyes with peripheral vision, a strong mouthpiece to chew a wide variety of insects.
The thorax is divided into 3 parts, mesothorax, prothorax and metatórax, which serve to support the internal organs as much as to allow the strength of its legs and the later birth of the wings that come out in its developed adult stage.
His abdomen also has part of the vital organs and an ideal digestive system to digest all the prey he eats. In the case of the females, they have additional space to develop the oothecae.
The wings in spite of not using it much. They serve as a defense, are part of your exoskeleton, thanks to their interconnected veins can relax or adjust the muscles to perform short flights. Although, as I said during his life, they don't use wings much.

That thing looks wicked.
I raise mantis every year, but mine are just the basic California Mantis.
Here is a quick video of a Chinese ootheca hatching (about 5 years ago)
